The rules behind the record.
Every setup is recorded using the same objective rules. This page explains what is recorded, how pips and R multiples are calculated, and how each outcome is determined.
Price checks and stale data.
Outcomes are determined using candle price checks and clear rules.
- If one candle touches stop and target, the stop counts first. This avoids assuming an outcome that could not be known in real time.
- Checks pause when the feed is stale. If price data is not updating, outcomes are not recorded until the feed resumes.
1 pip = 0.10 in price
A 1.00 move equals 10 pips.
R = price result ÷ original risk
For example, 2.00R means the price moved twice the original risk.
How outcomes are classified.
Each setup is given one outcome based on what happens to the price after it is active.
| Outcome | Explanation |
|---|---|
| Target hit | Price reaches the stated target level. |
| Stopped out | Price reaches the stop level. |
| Closed in profit | Closed in profit by a trailed stop or a news close. |
| Breakeven | Stop moved to entry, then touched. |
| Missed | Target reached before entry filled. |
| Cancelled | Pending plan cancelled before entry (news or replacement). |
How breakeven pips are booked.
The recorded pips may assume half the position was closed at the trigger. A trader who did not close half can have a different result.
News-related closures.
Some setups may be closed due to scheduled high-impact news.
- Pending plans cancelled. Setups that have not yet been triggered may be cancelled before high-impact news.
- Profitable active plans closed. Active setups in profit are closed at market before high-impact news.
- Other active plans keep their stop. Active setups that are not closed will keep their current stop level.
Before costs. Different brokers, different fills.
All results are recorded before trading costs. Spreads, commission, swaps and slippage are not deducted. Actual results may vary between brokers and account types.
